NGAAM :  งาม

NGAAM is a perspex sculpture with LED stripe and paper, taking the initial form of a book which opens to reveal a poem by Luís Vaz de Camões: ‘Amor é um fogo que arde sem se ver’.

The poem is printed on a paper page, interwoven within the perspex leaves which transform into the Thai word ‘Ngaam’, meaning ‘authentic’ or ‘beautiful’. The calligraphic rhythms of the letters echo the rhythms of Luís Vaz de Camões’s verse, when read or recited.

The book is supported on a rest, allowing the viewer to read the poem as revealed or to pick up and hold the book, by hand, for recital.
